Richard Rapoza, the longtime communications director for U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, starts a new job today as director of strategic communications for Hawaii Pacific University.

The private university announced Rapoza’s hiring in a press release today.

According to the release, Rapoza “will work closely with university leadership and be responsible for building, implementing and managing HPU’s comprehensive communication outreach strategies.”

Rapoza was the state Senate communications director before going to work for Hanabusa. She will soon be leaving office, having lost a bid for the U.S. Senate to incumbent Sen. Brian Schatz.

Rapoza notified media and others last week he would be leaving Hanabusa’s office today.
