The U.S. House of Representatives has canceled votes for Monday evening because of a massive snowstorm hitting the Northeast.

“Originally, the House was to consider six bills to combat human trafficking on Monday evening, but with the National Weather Service issuing blizzard warnings from coastal New Jersey to Maine, lawmakers were having trouble making it back to Washington,” according to The Hill.

“Republicans are also delaying a vote on a controversial border security bill that had been scheduled for Wednesday. The bill, which is no longer on this week’s schedule, would require the Department of Homeland Security to prevent all illegal crossings into the United States within five years.”

The Hill adds that voting on other legislation “has been thrown in doubt by the snowstorm that has the potential to disrupt air travel for days to come.”

It was not immediately clear whether the U.S. Senate would also close its doors. The Senate calendar says the chamber was to resume discussion Monday on the Keystone XL Pipeline Act.

On a related note: As of 9 a.m. Monday, it was a chilly 69 degrees Fahrenheit in Honolulu. Windward and mauka showers, too.
