Protecting the Lagoon A boom floats at Keehi Lagoon on Tuesday after it was placed there as a precaution to protect the water from a 42,000-gallon jet fuel spill from a Sand Island tank farm.

No Lagoon Contamination So Far State and Environmental Protection Agency workers had recovered nearly 20,000 gallons of the spilled fuel by mid-week.

Sidewalk Pickets On Tuesday, the striking workers were back on the King Street sidewalk. Licensed practical nurses, medical assistants and housekeepers are among the employees who have been without a contract for two years.
Some Clinics Closed The six-day strike prompted Kaiser Permanente to close 10 smaller clinics and consolidate operations at larger offices through Saturday.
