Our media partner KITV reports that the Arizona Memorial was set to reopen Friday.

The floating dock at the Pearl Harbor site was accidentally damaged May 27 by the Hospital Ship USNS Mercy, so it was not possible for visitors to disembark.

The Arizona Memorial, formally titled the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, is Hawaii’s No. 1 visitor attraction.

In 2013, more than 1.7 million people visited the site. Tours are scheduled every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I’ve visited the Arizona myself more than a half-dozen times, having led tours of Japanese students in an earlier career stint. Its solemnity still gives me chicken skin.

Of note: Dole Plantation, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Diamond Head State Monument and Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve round out our state’s Top 5 attractions, says Pacific Business News. I’m very fond of three of those.
