The phones have gone silent, regularly programming is back and staff and volunteers are catching up on much-needed sleep.
Hawaii Public Radio concluded its annual fall pledge drive Saturday afternoon, raising $980,449.
But it was a long haul.

“Much to our chagrin, our pledge drives seem to be so entertaining and informative that our members have become content listening to us fundraise for eleven and a half days!” said Michael Titterton, HPR president and general manager, said in a press release Monday. “All kidding aside, we are immensely grateful to our growing community of donors whose generosity has ensured the health and growth of HPR’s operations for the next six months.”
HPR, which has a $4.8 million annual operating budget, gets 93 percent of its revenue through individual members and corporate underwriters from within the state.
But only a minority of listeners actually contributes, much to the consternation of folks like me who contribute regularly.

So, it’s safe to return to listening to HPR 1 and HPR 2, two distinct streams found on the left-hand side of the dial.
