A selection committee commissioned by the Hawaii State Legislature has approved the design for a sculpture depicting the late U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink.

The statue, expected to be unveiled in 2017, will be located on the lawn fronting the Hawaii State Public Library.

The committee selected Hawaii Island artist Holly Young to create a bronze sculpture for $138,000. Her other works include the statue of Queen Kapiolani in Queen Kapiolani Regional Park on Oahu.

“Congresswoman Mink had a profound impact on Hawaii and our country by working tirelessly for women, social and economic justice, health care, education, and other causes she felt passionately for,”commission chair Gladys Quinto Marrone, CEO of the Building Industry Association of Hawaii and a former Mink staffer, said in a statement from the SFCA’s Art in Public Places. “She is an inspiration to us all.”
