West Hawaii Today is reporting that Harry Kim, the former Hawaii County mayor and Civil Defense chief, is going to run for mayor again this year.
The theme is restoring trust in government.
“This is something we have to do because it’s right,” Kim said, according to the newspaper. “The way people feel about the government is not good for any of us. … Trust is something you work for every single day, like any relationship, you work every day to earn the public’s trust.”

Kim was mayor from 2000 to 2008 and served a long stint in county Civil Defense, where he became a well-known figure in part because of all the attention on the lava that destroyed Kalapana.
He lost a very close race to Mayor Billy Kenoi in 2012.
Kenoi, who was shamed in a scandal involving his use of a government credit card, is term-limited.
At least two people have already filed to run for mayor while several others have pulled papers.
Meanwhile, on Oahu Mayor Kirk Caldwell has yet to draw and official challenger.
