Hawaii Reps Act On Immigration

The state’s four members in Congress sign on to an amicus brief before the Supreme Court supporting Obama’s programs.

The members of Hawaii’s congressional delegation were among 224 other members of Congress filing an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court last week in the matter of United States v. Texas.

According the office of Sen. Mazie Hirono, the case involves Texas and 25 other states suing to block implementation of President Obama’s executive action on the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programs.

“The Administration’s DAPA and DACA programs are on hold until the case is resolved by the Supreme Court, leaving workers and families across the country in limbo due to our nation’s broken immigration system,” a press release explained.

Hirono, Sen. Brian Schatz and Reps. Tulsi Gabbard and Mark Takai all signed the brief.

Hirono is only immigrant currently serving in the U.S. Senate.

Opponents of the executive actions on immigration argue that the president exceeded his authority.
