Democrats are picking up their campaign to shame Senate Republicans into holding a confirmation hearing for President’s Barack Obama’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.
Thursday, on the front steps of the Supreme Court building, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz joined Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and other Senate Democrats to call on Senate Republicans “to do their job” and give Judge Merrick Garland “a fair confirmation process.”
“We’re ready to get to work, but the Republicans have refused to do their job,” Schatz said, according to his office. “American workers wake up every day and go to work. They can’t pick and choose which parts of their job they would like to do or when they would like to get started.”

Schatz added: “The American people deserve a Senate that does its job. It’s time for Senate Republicans to end the political games, fulfill their constitutional duty, and join us in restoring the Supreme Court to its full strength.”
Hawaii’s other senator, Mazie Hirono, has also insisted on a nomination hearing.
GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says a hearing will not be held until Americans have selected a new president.
