A report from NPR says, when it comes to women in state legislatures, Wyoming does worst with just 13 percent while neighboring Colorado does best with 42 percent.

“Women may make up half the population, but in the U.S. they rarely have anything close to proportional political representation,” says NPR. “At the state level, where many aspiring politicians get their start, just 24.5 percent of lawmakers are women, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.”

Hawaii ranks 13th best, with 28.9 percent of our Legislature represented by women.

We are also one of only 21 states that have elected a woman governor.

Hawaii currently has two women as part of our four-member congressional delegation, a greater proportion than most states.

Mississippi is the only state to have never sent a woman to D.C.
