Following the worst mass shooting in U.S history Sunday, the local office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation released this statement:

In the wake of the Orlando tragedy, the Honolulu FBI wants to assure the public that there are no known related threats within the Honolulu FBI’s area of responsibility. The perpetrator has no known association with our island communities.

The Honolulu FBI is monitoring the situation closely to ensure the public’s safety and stands ready to provide appropriate investigative assistance to the mainland communities directly impacted by this tragic event.

As always, we will keep our media partners informed of any significant developments which may impact our community.

The White House, meantime, issued remarks from President Obama:

“I just finished a meeting with FBI Director Comey and my homeland security and national security advisors,” he said. “The FBI is on the scene and leading the investigation, in partnership with local law enforcement. I’ve directed that the full resources of the federal government be made available for this investigation.”

The president added, “We’re still learning all the facts. This is an open investigation. We’ve reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer. The FBI is appropriately investigating this as an act of terrorism.”
