Planning to drive in the vicinity of the Hawaii Convention Center and the Neal S. Blaisdell Center this week?

Warning: Traffic will probably suck. Big time.

That’s why the City and County and the IUCN World Conservation Congress are advising motorists to be aware that  more than 6,000 delegates from 170 countries will be in town as early as Tuesday night to discuss “the most challenging issues for conservation.”

Among the biggest impacts will be restrictions around the Blaisdell Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 that are expected to affect vehicular traffic, pedestrian sidewalk access, and parking,” says an advisory.

The city’s website has posted three maps where traffic will be particularly dicey, given all the security.

But impacts elsewhere including parks, bus routes and parking areas.

Also in town for a day or so will be President Obama, who is scheduled to speak at the East-West Center Wednesday.

The congress runs until Sept. 10.
