Gov. Ige Off To Asia, Again

The Hawaii leader has traveled several times to East Asia on business.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige is traveling in Okinawa and Tokyo from Monday through Nov. 2.

According to a press release, in Okinawa the focus will be renewable energy and utilizing deep seawater.

In Tokyo, Ige will meet with government and business officials on “energy, tourism, pre-clearance and expanding routes” between Japan and Hawaii.

Chief of Staff Mike McCartney will join the governor for the Tokyo portion of this trip.

First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige is joining the governor for both the Okinawa and Tokyo portions of the trip, “at her own expense.”

Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui will serve as acting governor.

Ige has made multiple trips to East Asia.

Last year he traveled three times, visiting Japan, Okinawa (which is part of Japan), China and South Korea.

He and his wife also attended an official state dinner for Prime Shinzo Minister Abe in Washington, D.C.
