Body Recovered Off Kauai

The police reported finding the body of a woman Saturday in waters off the island’s north shore.

Our media partner KITV has this report on the Kauai Police Department finding the body of a Hanamaulu woman Saturday in waters off Hanakapiai Beach.

Hanalei firefighters and ocean safety officials got word of a female swimmer in distress around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police have identified her as 53-year-old Janet Ballesteros.

As Civil Beat reported last week, 12 persons have drowned so far this year on the Garden Isle, twice the rate of the previous year.
