Eight candidates are competing for the 1st Congressional District.
Hawaiʻi’s 1st Congressional District encompasses much of Oʻahu from East Honolulu to Kapolei and Mililani — home to about 720,000 residents.
There are five Democratic candidates and one Republican, one Green and one nonpartisan candidate on the ballot for the July 21 primary election to represent the district.
All were sent a survey by Civil Beat asking them to outline their views on a range of issues, including the legal challenge against Kamehameha Schools’ admissions policy, how they would use federal programs to make housing more affordable and how they would stand up to pressure from the Trump administration.
Their responses – if provided – are linked here in alphabetical order under their official ballot name, which you can also compare all in one spot on Civil Beat’s 2026 Hawaiʻi Primary Ballot.
