Big Island Mayor Harry Kim appointed Roy Takemoto as his new managing director effective Dec. 2, the mayor announced in a press release.
Takemoto will replace outgoing Managing Director Wil Okabe, who announced his resignation Monday and plans to leave office Nov. 30, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported.
Takemoto was previously the mayor’s executive assistant, and also worked for Kim as deputy planning director between 2000 and 2008.
Takemoto, a University of Hawaii alumnus, also worked as a planning consultant.
His appointment is subject to a Hawaii County Council confirmation vote scheduled for Dec. 4.
