Because of rockslides in February, the Pali Highway connecting Windward and Leeward Oahu remains under repair.
Beginning Thursday, however, there will be new access hours:
- Sundays through Fridays (closed on Saturdays and state holidays).
- Honolulu-bound a.m. contraflow: 5 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Kailua/Kaneohe bound p.m. access: 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation said Friday in a press release that emergency repairs “remain on schedule” to allow for access in both directions beginning Sept. 1.

“Night work will be necessary through November and daytime single lane closures will be scheduled as needed to complete the additional slope protection work and Pali Highway improvements,” the DOT said.

And don’t forget there is always H-3, the Likelike and the scenic drive from Koko Head to Waimanalo to get to the other side and back.
